A lorry driver has died after his vehicle smashed through the central barrier on the M74 and into a car on the other side of the carriageway.
The collision happened on the motorway near to J10 and J11 in South Lanarkshire at around 7.50am on Saturday.
Police said the lorry was on its way north when it crashed through the central reservation barrier. It then collided with a black Land Rover Discovery travelling southbound.
The 32-year-old male driver of the lorry was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.
The male driver of the Land Rover was uninjured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.
An investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances of the collision.
The road remains closed to allow crash scene investigators to examine the area and conduct enquiries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing to any motorists who were on the M74 with any dashcam devices to check their footage.
“It’s possible it may have captured images which could assist officers in their enquiries.”
