A man who abused two teenage girls while working in a children’s home is facing jail.

Alexander Boyd preyed on and raped both the young victims who were at a children’s home in Argyll and Bute.

The 56-year-old denied the crimes during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow but was found guilty of four sex charges spanning between 1998 and 2001.

Boyd, of Inverness, showed no emotion as he was remanded in custody pending sentencing next month.

Judge Tom Hughes told him: “The jury has taken some time to consider this matter in detail and returned verdicts of guilty.

“These are very serious matters, made serious by the fact that they involve the abuse of young children while in care.

“You were, in fact, charged with looking after and caring for them during that time.

“Here we are now, you convicted of serious sexual offences. That will require a substantial sentence in due course.”

Boyd – who had been on bail during the trial – was also put on the sex offenders list.

Detective inspector Peter MacMillan said: “Boyd abused his position of trust to carry out horrific offending against vulnerable children.

“He was being paid to look after these children and instead took advantage and committed crimes at a place where they should have been safe.

“Police Scotland will fully investigate abuse wherever it occurs and whoever the perpetrator is, no matter how long ago it happened.

“I’d encourage anyone with concerns about sexual abuse to contact officers or one of our support services who will listen and investigate.”
