Police are hunting a man who claimed to have a gun while trying to rob a shop in Renfrew.
A man and woman entered a store on High Street in the town around 4.30pm on Sunday before the man claimed to be in possession of a firearm and demanded money.
No weapon was seen by staff, and no money was handed over.
The woman stole an item before the pair left in the direction of the town centre.
The man is described as white, 40 to 50 years old, with a slim build, short stature, and receding grey hair. He was wearing a black top and jeans.
The woman is described as white, around 35 to 45 years old, of slim build with long black hair.
She was wearing a dark-coloured jacket and light-coloured jeans and carrying a red shopping bag.
Detective constable James Campbell said: “Fortunately no one was injured but the staff member was left shaken and upset by what happened.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible and we are asking anyone who recognises the suspects or has information about them to get in touch.
“We are also asking anyone driving in the general area at the time to check their dash-cam to see if they have captured anything that could assist with our investigation.
