Man appears in court over 'assault to severe injury' after woman found dead

A man has been charged with assault to severe injury and assaulting a police officer after a woman was found dead at a property in Ayr.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address around 4.45pm on Saturday, March 2 on Whitletts Road in Ayr near the town’s racecourse.

A woman was found dead within the house and her death is being treated as “unexplained”.

Kenneth Davies was charged with assault to severe injury following the incident, and appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday.

The 70-year-old was also charged with assaulting a police officer.

He made no plea before being remanded in custody.

Davies is expected to appear in court again in the next eight days.

Police said enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain “ongoing”.
