Man charged over 'attempted murder' of police officer in hit-and-run

A 26-year-old man is due to appear in court after a car was driven at an officer in Dumfries on Monday.

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer in a hit-and-run in Dumfries.

Officers were called to assist a member of the public on Herries Avenue at around 12.10am on Monday. A silver Subaru Forester car was allegedly driven at a male officer at around 1.20am.

He was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are treating the incident as attempted murder.

A 26-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Thursday.
