Man charged after woman sexually assaulted on road

A man has been charged after a woman was sexually assaulted on a road in Lockerbie.

Emergency services were called to Dumfries Road at around 7.10pm on Saturday.

A woman, aged 30, was walking on the road when she was approached by a man and sexually assaulted.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He has since been released and is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

Inspector Garry Mitchell said: “I would like to thank the community for their information which has resulted in an arrest being made. The response from the public was overwhelming and I am grateful for the assistance provided.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure anyone engaged in criminal activity are brought to justice.”
