Police Scotland confirmed that officers stopped a man walking along the M74 close to Larkhall on Tuesday.

A man has been charged after walking along a motorway with an axe in his waistband in Glasgow.

Officers responded to reports of a male walking along the M74 near to Larkhall around 12.45pm on Tuesday.

Police searched the man and discovered an axe hidden in his waistband.

The force confirmed that a 38-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.45pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 police received a report of a person walking along the roadway at the M74, Larkhall.

“Officers attended and discovered the man was in possession of a bladed weapon.

“The 38-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

“He is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.”
