A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a death in a fire that gutted a Glasgow tenement.
Rahul Thakur died after the blaze ripped through a flat on McCulloch Street, in Pollokshields on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services fought the blaze for hours with several homes being evacuated after being called to the scene at Lincluden Path at around 1.30pm.
Nine fire engines and an aerial platform were on the scene tackling the fire in the three-storey tenement. On Wednesday, police confirmed a body had been found inside a flat.
A 53-year-old man has been charged in connection with Mr Thakur’s death and is due to appear at the Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, June 7.
The Bowling Green, a community organisation, said 15 families were displaced by the blaze and an appeal was launched to gather clothes and shoes for them.
Detective inspector Scott McNulty said: “Our thoughts are very much with Rahul’s family at this time and I would like to extend my sympathies to them.
“A joint investigation was carried out with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. I would like to thank our partners and everyone who assisted us with our enquiries.”
