A two-year-old boy was spotted alone by residents on a Renfrewshire street on Sunday evening.

A man has been charged after a two-year old boy was found alone at night on a Renfrewshire street wearing just a nappy and a T-shirt.

The incident happened in Maxwellton Street in Paisley, at around 8.45pm on Sunday, January 16.

Officers received a call and found the child, who they described as “safe and well”, on the street.

Police Scotland confirmed a 55-year-old man has since been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.45pm on Sunday 16 January 2022, police received a concern for person call in Maxwellton Street in Paisley.

“Officers attended a two-year-old boy was traced safe and well. A 55 year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this matter.

“He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court at a later date. A full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
