Man charged after homeless tents urinated on and volunteers attacked in Glasgow city centre

A man has been charged after homeless tents were urinated on and volunteers were attacked in Glasgow city centre.

Homeless Project Scotland said the “disgraceful” incident unfolded in the early hours on Saturday morning.

The charity said a man approached homeless tents on Glassford Street and urinated on them, before being confronted by Homeless Project Scotland volunteers.

The man then attacked the volunteers.

The charity said Police Scotland took “swift” action and a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Homeless Project Scotland said: “This behaviour is disgraceful and will not be tolerated.”

It comes after a homeless person was targeted by two masked people on an e-scooter in Glasgow last week.

The two males threw a traffic cone at a homeless tent before speeding off.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.55am on Saturday, August 1, 2026, we were called to a report of a disturbance in the Glassford Street area of Glasgow.

“A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
