A man has been charged after a car crashed through the window of a Tesco supermarket in Inverclyde.
Officers were called to reports of a one-vehicle crash in Dalrymple Street, Greenock, around 8.20pm on Friday.
The car crashed through the window of a Tesco supermarket entrance and forced the early closure of the store.
Police said there was one occupant of the car who was taken to hospital but has since been released.
A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, who will appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday.
A Tesco spokesperson confirmed the store was back open and trading as normal on Saturday morning.
A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Our Greenock Extra is open and trading as normal this morning, after having to close early last night when a vehicle struck the store’s entrance lobby.
“We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.20pm on Friday, September 6, 2024, police received a report of a one-vehicle road crash in Dalrymple Street, when a car crashed into a superstore.
“There was only one occupant of the car and he was taken to hospital. He has since been released.
“A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
“He is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday, September 9, 2024.”
