Man charged after riot police 'attacked with fireworks and bricks'

Officers were called to several incidents in the Auchinleck area between Friday, November 24 and Sunday, November 26.

A further arrest has been made after a “hostile crowd” allegedly attacked riot police with fireworks and bricks in a large-scale disturbance in East Ayrshire over the weekend.

Officers were called to several incidents in the Auchinleck area between Friday, November 24 and Sunday, November 26.

Videos posted on social media showed police with helmets and riot shields having fireworks thrown at them.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged and was due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Thursday, November 30, 2023. 

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify others involved and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
