A man caught with a £370,000 drugs haul in a van claimed that he was paying back a debt.

Daniel Jones, 27, was snared by police following intelligence on the M73 at Gartcosh, Lanarkshire, on October 28 2024.

Police had stopped the Citroen Berlingo van and found Jones, the driver, to be the only person inside.

The vehicle was searched and two bin bags were found in the rear which contained packages.

Prosecutor Chris Macintosh told the High Court in Glasgow: “Ten package blocks, which weighed one kilogram each, were found to be cocaine.

“The total weight was around ten kilogrammes.

“The purity of each block was between 76 and 77% and the total value of the drugs is £370,000.”

Jones told officers after his arrest that he had a drug debt of £5,000.

Mr Macintosh added: “He said he was asked to deliver bags by an unidentified man.

“He said he did not know what was in the bags and he had not touched them.

“He stated that he wasn’t allowed to ask what was in the bags and that a portion of his debt would be wiped.”

Jones, of Wythall, Worcestershire, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Sentencing was deferred pending background reports until next month by Judge Lord Colbeck who continued Jones’ remand in custody in the meantime.
