A man who was caught on a mobile phone call raping a woman has been jailed for six years.
Dane Thompson struck within days of meeting the victim, having initially been in touch with her online.
The 35-year-old was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday.
Thompson – who has convictions dating back to when he was 14 – was earlier found guilty of raping the woman at his house in the city’s Scotstoun in February 2023.
He claimed to have been the victim of lies made against him.
The trial heard how the traumatised woman bravely tried to fight off Thompson during the attack and scratched him.
Jurors were told how her phone was under a pillow during the incident.
A call ended up being made to one of the woman’s friends.
In his closing speech, prosecutor Mark Mohammed KC stated: “She heard it happening.
“There had been a missed call and (the friend) phoned back.
“She was connected and heard (the victim) say: ‘Get off me’.”
Mr Mohammed said this backed-up the woman’s account that she had been sexually assaulted.
As well as the rape, Thompson was also convicted of engaging in abusive behaviour towards the victim.
His lawyer Duncan McPhie said: “He gave evidence at the trial, denied the allegations and he maintains that position.”
Sentencing, Lord Colbeck said Thompson showed “no insight” into the impact of his actions.
The judge stated: “You met your victim online, communicated with her for two months and she came to Glasgow.
“Within seven days of arriving, you had been arrested and remanded in custody in relation to offences committed against her.
“You engaged in a course of behaviour that was abusive. More significantly, you raped her despite her protests.”
Thompson was put on the sex offenders list indefinitely. He has also been banned from contacting the woman.
