A man who was caught at a library using their public computers to chat to a girl he believed was 13 years old has been jailed for a year.

Scott Hendry, 40, instead spoke to an adult decoy at Cardonald Library, Glasgow, in March this year.

Hendry used the Meet 24 application to meet the decoy who told him she was 13.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Hendry told the decoy his name before the chat quickly turned sexual in nature over two days.

Hendry said: “Okay, are you okay? I’m from Scotland, do you like talking dirty on here?”

He then went on to make a sexual remark which prompted the decoy to go contact the police.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “Police traced Hendry to the library because part of his conversation was he was in Cardonald Library.

“Police tracked him there on a Saturday having been provided with information and he was arrested.”

Hendry pled guilty to sending sexual communications that were of a graphic nature and attempting communicate indecently with a child.

Moira Grant, defending, told the court Hendry has previous convictions for similar offences.

Sheriff Paul Crozier also put Hendry on the sex offenders register for ten years.
