A man who struck another man with a piece of wood after blaming him for coronavirus has been jailed for 12 months.

Lee Sands, 25, turned on Keving Singh in Glasgow’s Tollcross on May 27, 2020.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Mr Singh and Gurmair Shnn were walking home when Sands jumped out from his garden.

Sands shouted at Mr Singh, who then contacted the police to report the disturbance.

Mr Singh got himself away from Sands, who shouted at him: “You P**i b******s, it’s your fault coronavirus is here.”

Prosecutor Emma Baker added: “Sands threw a piece of wood and struck Mr Singh on the body.

“He then picked up the wood and chased after the two witnesses along Tollcross Road.”

Sands initially fled the scene before returning and ran back towards the pair.

Mr Singh then grabbed a bottle and threw it at Sands, but it smashed on the wall behind him.

Sands was left with a small wound to his chin.

Sands pled guilty on Tuesday to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and assaulting Mr Singh which was racially aggravated.
