A man has been left injured after being assaulted and robbed at knifepoint in North Lanarkshire in what police are calling an “opportunist attack”.
The 33-year-old was on Coltness Drive, Bellshill when the attack took place in the early hours of Thursday.
He was approached by another man carrying a knife at around 2am.
The man threatened him and took his wallet, which was later retrieved, before assaulting him.
The victim was left with face and head injuries.
Police are now investigating the incident as they look to trace the suspect described as being in his early twenties with a slim build and short dark hair.
At the time of the attack he was wearing a light-coloured t-shirt.
Detective Constable Lindsey McIntyre, Wishaw CID, said: “This appears to have been an opportunist attack and the man has been left severely shaken and with an injury to his head and face.
“This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and it is vital that we trace the individual responsible.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the attack, or seen anything out of place, to please get in touch.”
