Man arrested during Glasgow protest as 'items thrown and officers draw batons'

A man has been arrested following a protest in Glasgow after items were thrown and officers drew their batons.

Emergency services were alerted to the gathering, and a disturbance to Lamlash Crescent in the Cranhill area.

In videos seen by STV News, demonstrators can be heard shouting “beast” while police stand guard at a block of flats.

Two individuals can then be seen leaving the property surrounded by officers. Members of the public are also shown face-to-face with a wall of officers who are holding their batons.

One video shows a scuffle breaking out, prompting both protestors and police to run into the area. An item appears to be thrown toward officers before bursting on the ground.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested following the protest. An investigation into the full circumstances is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.05pm on Tuesday, July 7, we received a report of a protest and disturbance in the Lamlash Crescent area of Glasgow.

“Officers attended, and a 32-year-old man was arrested. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
