Man arrested after young woman, 20, raped at property

A man has been arrested after a woman was raped at a property in North Lanarkshire.

Officers were called to the Hamilton Road area of Motherwell at around 7.20pm on Wednesday after receiving reports of a 20-year-old being attacked.

On Friday, a 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

He has since been released pending further enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.20pm on Wednesday, July 31, we received a report of a 20-year-old woman having been seriously sexually assaulted in the Hamilton Road area of Motherwell.

“A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection and released pending further enquiries.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
