A 42-year-old has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in West Dunbartonshire.

A murder investigation was launched by Police Scotland following a fire at a property in Tontine Park, Renton, at around 7.25am on March 25.

The body of Charles “Chic” Wilson, who was last seen alive around 10.45am on Friday, March 24, was found inside the bedroom of the flat.

Officers later confirmed a 42-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with his death.

On Monday, Gary Meikle made no plea when he appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He was remanded in custody.

The case was committed for further examination and he is expected to appear in court again within the next eight days.
