Man appears in court after ‘explosive substances, firearm and drugs’ found in Glasgow raid STV News

A man has appeared in court after “suspicious items” were discovered at a flat in Glasgow during a pre-planned police raid.

Shazad Khan appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday facing charges relating to the Explosive Substances Act, the Firearms Act and the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The 50-year-old from Glasgow made no plea and has been remanded in custody.

He is expected to appear before a judge again in the next eight days.

Police locked down Broomhill Drive between Dumbarton Road and Broomhill Avenue near Thornwood on Thursday after the discovery was made.

Several homes were evacuated overnight with the Royal Navy bomb squad called to the scene to assist.

Police confirmed on Friday morning that a 50-year-old man had been charged and the street had reopened.

The majority of residents have been allowed back into their homes however a small number of properties remain evacuated and a cordon is in place as a precaution.
