A man and a woman have been taken to hospital after a crash closed the A77 in both directions.
Emergency services were called to the road between Minishant and Maybole following a two-car crash at around 3.50pm on Thursday.
A 59-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock, while a 62-year-old woman was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Their current conditions are unknown at this stage.
The road remains closed and drivers have been urged to find alternative routes at this time.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.50pm on Thursday, August 31, 2023, we were called to a report of a two-vehicle crash on the A77, Minishant.
“Emergency services attended.
“A 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock and a 62-year-old woman was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
“The road remains closed between Maybole and the B7045, Hoggs Corner, while enquiries continue.”
