A car stolen from Edinburgh last month struck two pedestrians before being found abandoned in Kilmarnock.

A man and a woman were struck down in a hit and run in Kilmarnock with a car stolen from Edinburgh.

Police were called to Lainshaw Avenue, at around 9.50pm on Sunday, where the pedestrians were found injured.

The car, a grey Toyota Hilux, left the scene and was later recovered abandoned on Bridgehousehill Road.

Detectives established the car had been stolen from more than 60 miles away in the Bartongate Terrace area of Edinburgh last month.

The man and woman were taken to Crosshouse Hospital for assessment and later released.

Detective Sergeant Barry Gibson said: “Enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“If you believe you can assist our enquiries, or you were in the Lainshaw Avenue area on Sunday night and witnessed anything suspicious, please call police.”
