Man and woman in serious condition in hospital after Mercedes crash

The A77, near Monkton, was closed for around six hours after two cars collided on Thursday afternoon.

A man and woman are in a serious condition in hospital after a Mercedes was involved in a crash near a roundabout in South Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to half a mile south of the Dutch House Roundabout, on the A77 near Monkton, at around 2.25pm on Thursday after a silver Mercedes A200 and a red Renault Captur collided.

A 78-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman, the driver and passenger of the Mercedes, were taken to hospital for treatment where they both remain in a serious condition.

The road was closed while crash investigations were carried out and reopened at around 8.30pm.

Constable Nigel Shaw, Ayrshire Road Policing, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing, and I am appealing for anyone who has any information to contact us.

“I would particularly appeal to anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have witnessed the crash or who has dash-cam footage which may assist to get in touch.”
