Two people have been rushed to hospital in a serious condition following an early morning crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

A Ford Fiesta is reported to have “left the road” during the incident on the B7076 between Ecclefechan and Kirkpatrick Fleming in the early hours of Monday morning.

Emergency crews raced to the scene amid reports the driver and a passenger were injured in the crash, which is not thought to have involved any other vehicles, shortly after 5.35am.

The 47-year-old man and his 42-year-old female passenger were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where they remain in a serious, but stable, condition.

An investigation into the incident is now under way.

Sergeant Callum Ruddick of the divisional Road Policing Unit at Lockerbie said: “Our investigation into the cause of this crash is continuing and I would appeal to anyone with information that may assist our enquiries to contact us. 

“Anyone who was driving on the B7076 between Ecclefechan and Kirkpatrick Fleming on Monday morning, who may have seen the Ford Fiesta driving on the road before the crash occurred is asked to contact 101 quoting reference number 0444 of Monday, July 4.”
