Two people have been arrested and charged after a fire at a block of flats near Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to reports of a blaze on Wilton Street in Coatbridge on Saturday evening at around 8.20pm.

Officers confirmed a 44-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The pair are due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday, February 12.

Fire crews say no one was injured in the blaze.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire at a premises on Wilton Street, Townhead, Coatbridge, around 8.20pm on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

“A 44-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection and are due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday, February 12, 2024.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.13pm on Saturday, February 10 to reports of a dwelling fire at Witchwood Court, Coatbridge.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where crews extinguished the fire affecting a flat in a multi-storey building.

“There were no reported casualties, and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
