A man and boy arrested over a fire that ripped through three buildings in Argyll and Bute have been charged.

The 30-year-old and 14-year-old are due to appear at court on Monday over the blaze that took hold of the the properties on Argyll Street, Dunoon in the early hours of Friday.

Firefighters attended the scene after the alarm was raised at around 4am.

No one was injured in the incident.

A crowd funding page was launched to raise money for three town centre businesses destroyed in the fire that left others badly damaged.

And police say extra officers will be in the area to provide reassurance to locals.

Inspector Morven Sutherland of Dumbarton Police Station said: “A 30-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy have been arrested and charged after three properties were damaged by fire in Argyll Street, Dunoon, around 4am on Friday.

“Additional uniform patrols will be in the area to provide reassurance to members of the public and I would urge anyone with concerns to approach our officers, who will be happy to assist.”
