A man is to stand trial charged with having explosive substances at his home.

Martin Cox is alleged to have committed the crime on February 5, 2024, at the flat in Old Shettleston Road in Glasgow’s east end.

Prosecutors claim the 43-year-old did “make or knowingly have” in his possession gunpowder as well as sulphur, potassium nitrate and charcoal.

These, along with further apparatus and material, are said to have been capable of causing an explosion when used with other substances or devices, including shotgun cartridges, ball bearings, and pyrotechnic fuse wire.

The case called for a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Cox faces two allegations under the Explosive Substances Act as well as another of possessing cannabis.

Derek Pettigrew, defending, said: “He denies all the charges. There are no special defences.”

The solicitor advocate and prosecutor Tracey Brown agreed a trial could be set.

Lord Colbeck went on to schedule a trial for December 2025.

The case could last up to six days.
