Two men are in hospital following a two-car crash on the M74 in Johnstonebridge.

Police were called to the southbound carriageway near the Annan Bank Overbridge around 1pm on Tuesday following the crash.

A 23-year-old male driver of a black Seat Leon was taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A 48-year-old male driver of a white Tesla was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The road was closed for around eight hours while investigations were carried out.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or saw either car to come forward.

Sergeant Colin Ramage said: “I’m appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or saw either vehicle before the collision, to come forward.

“I’d also ask drivers with dash-cams to review any footage of the area around the time to see if you have captured something which may assist our investigation.

“Members of the public are thanked for their patience yesterday. We appreciate this caused delays on the road network, however it was essential to ensure the safety of officers and other road users while enquiries were carried out.”

“Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1412 of November 11.”
