A man has been charged after cocaine worth around £250,000 was seized from a car travelling on the M74 in Dumfries and Galloway.

Officers stopped the car on the motorway near Lockerbie at around 9.15pm on Wednesday.

Cocaine with an estimated street value of £250,000 was recovered from the vehicle.

A 63-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the discovery.

The man is due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Detective chief inspector Laura Sands said: “Drugs cause misery in our communities, and we are determined to disrupt the supply of illegal substances and trace those involved.

“This recovery means a significant quantity of drugs will not end up on our streets and underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“Anyone with any information or concerns about drugs in their community can call Police Scotland on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
