A man who died after being seriously injured in a disturbance involving several men in Glasgow city centre has been named.

Police were called to Royal Exchange Square, near the Duke of Wellington statue, around 3.05am on Sunday, following reports of the incident.

Daniel Colrain was found seriously injured and taken to hospital, where he died on Monday.

Police are yet to make any arrests in connection with the 21-year-old’s death. A post-mortem examination took place on Tuesday.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the disturbance and released pending further enquiries.

Another man, aged 21, was also assaulted and sustained minor injuries. Police have arrested and charged a 20-year-old man in connection with this incident.

He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

Police cordoned off the area connecting the square with Buchanan Street and Queen Street following the incident.

Extensive enquiries are ongoing, and detectives have set up a dedicated portal where information can be submitted anonymously.

Detective Inspector Jonny MacKinnon, of Greater Glasgow CID, said: “Our thoughts remain with Daniel’s family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time for them.

“I would like to reiterate that no arrests have been made in connection with the death at this time and extensive enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“It is vital we get answers for Daniel’s family, so I would ask that anyone with any information, and has yet to speak to officers, contact us on 101, quoting incident number 0494 of Sunday, October 4, 2026.”

Chief inspector Stephen McManus said: “We understand this incident will be concerning for the community, but please be assured, specialist officers are carrying out extensive enquiries.

“Increased patrols will be carried out in the area and anyone with any concerns, or information, can approach these officers.”

“No one has been arrested in connection with the death of the man at this time, and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“Anyone with information who has not already spoken to officers is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 0494 of Sunday, October 4, 2026.”
