Rail passengers are facing major disruption on Thursday morning due to a signalling fault.

Shortly after 7am on August 17, ScotRail advised customers that services were unable to run between Paisley Gilmour St and Kilwinning due to the issue.

Network Rail said that trains in both directions between Paisley Gilmour Street and Ayr, Largs, and Ardrossan were unable to run due to the fault, but engineers were investigating and working to fix the fault.

Disruption is expected to last until 10am.

ScotRail said that Glasgow Central to and from Ardrossan, Ayr and Largs services will be subject to delays, alterations and cancellations.

The rail operator added that there were “very limited replacement buses available” at Paisley Gilmour Street at 8.30am and at Ayr at 8am.

At Kilwinning, two blue buses would be on site for 9.15am and two executive hire coaches would be on site for 10am.
