Drivers have been urged to avoid the M8 in Glasgow after an emergency incident has closed the motorway in both directions.
The road is shut between J12 Cumbernauld Road Interchange and J13 Provan Interchange after a lorry crashed through the central reservation colliding with a car.
Police asked people to avoid the area and use an alternative route as they diverted road users off the M8.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 11:50am on Friday, January 21, 2022, police were called to reports of a two vehicle crash on the M8 westbound near Junction 13.
“Officers are at the scene and the westbound carriageway is closed. One lane of the M80 slip road remains open. Enquiries are ongoing. Drivers are urged to use alternative routes.”
First Bus warned passengers that the disruption on the M8 was effecting several services to the city including the X3, X11, X85 and X87.
Stagecoach warned of “major delays” due to the incident.
At 1.40pm, Road Policing Scotland said: “We are working with partners at the M8 J12 to J13 in both directions and have partially reopened lanes.
“Both directions will be closed for a short period to allow recovery of vehicles to take place soon. We advise motorists to avoid the area if possible as delays are likely.”
At 11.52am on Friday, Traffic Scotland alerted drivers to an accident between the slip roads at J13.
Two minutes later, two lanes westbound were closed between J15 and J14 due to an incident.
At the same time, two lanes eastbound were shut between J14 and J13.
