A stretch of the M73 was closed in both directions following a report of a lorry fire.

Emergency services warned of the closure at around 7.44am on Thursday.

The motorway was shut northbound from J2 Baillieston Interchange and southbound from J2A Gartcosh Interchange.

The M80 slip road onto the M73 southbound was also closed.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) mobilised six appliances to the scene, where crews remain in attendance to make the area safe.

Police Scotland teams are also at the scene.

In an update at 9.20am, Traffic Scotland advised that the southbound carriageway and M80 slip road onto the M73 have since fully reopened.

Lane two on the northbound carriageway has also reopened, but lane one remains closed.

The spokesperson added: “Traffic is still slow northbound with around a ten-minute travel time.”
