'Loving mother' who died in crash that killed four horses named

A “loving wife, mother and grandma who died in a crash that also killed four horses in Renfrewshire has been named.

Lesley McTear was a passenger in a Mercedes car when it collided with a box van in the early hours of Monday morning.

Emergency services attended and the 59-year-old from Dreghorn was pronounced dead at the scene on the A737 near Howwood.

The 52-year-old male driver of the car was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A 33-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, and the 59-year-old man driving the van were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for assessment.

When police arrived there were reports of six horses running loose and four of them later died after being struck by vehicles.

Two horses were taken to safety.

Ms McTear’s family have paid tribute to her saying: “Lesley was a loving wife, mother, grandma and daughter in law. As a family, we are deeply saddened by the events that have caused such a void in our family.

“Lesley was the glue that kept us all together and anyone who was lucky enough to know Lesley was showered by her unconditional love.”

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died and everyone involved.

“Our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist with our investigation who has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch.”
