A kitten found on a train to Edinburgh was likely abandoned, with her owner yet to come forward.

The kitten was discovered in a carrier by concerned passengers on the 8.25am ScotRail train from Helensburgh on January 8.

After being taken to Dalmuir train station, she was brought to the Cats Protection branch in Glasgow, where staff affectionately named her Annie.

Annie is now being looked after by one of the charity’s foster carers, but will eventually be ready to find her forever family.

The kitten is estimated to be around six months old and is healthy.  She will be given a check-up by the charity’s vets and will eventually be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

“After receiving the call from the ScotRail team and collecting Annie from Dalmuir Station, we were able to place her with one of our dedicated fosterers”, Cats Protection Glasgow branch coordinator, Elaine Brennan, said.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to the ScotRail team for acting so quickly and doing all they could to reassure Annie.

“She was understandably initially scared from her ordeal, but being so young and in a foster environment meant that she soon showed her playful kitten nature. She has especially taken to her foster dad and loves nothing more than curling up with him.

“Sadly, an owner hasn’t come forward for Annie, so it is highly likely that she was abandoned.

“She is still receiving her vaccinations, so isn’t quite ready to find her forever home, but we know that when the time comes, she will make a wonderful addition.

“We’d be so grateful to anyone who can support or share Annie’s story.”

The charity is now fundraising to cover the costs of Annie’s care and to help them care for other cats and kittens in Glasgow in a similar situation.

A £500 target has been set for the online fundraiser.

Cats Protection Glasgow Branch is run entirely by cat-loving volunteers who give up their time to help cats and kittens like Annie.

They receive no government funding and everything from food and litter to toys and veterinary fees is covered by donations from kind-hearted supporters.

Donations can be made to Annie’s fundraiser here.
