PLANS for a car park on the Kintyre Peninsula, with 16 spaces for cars and 10 bays for bikes, have been approved by council officials.
The Glenbarr Community Development Association applied to Argyll and Bute Council for planning permission for the facility on a site southwest of Glenbarr Abbey.
Nine expressions of support were received from the public by the authority during the planning process, as well as two objections.
The authority has now rubber-stamped the plans, saying that there was no reason to withhold planning permission.
A council officer said in a handling report: “The proposal would result in the formation of 16 car parking bays and 10 bicycle parking spaces (five bicycle stands).
“The proposed car park is intended to serve visitors visiting the Glenbarr village, and future community open space/ leisure development in the remaining part of the field (also known as Dal an Duie field) and adjacent woodland which are both owned by the applicant. No electric vehicle charging facilities will be provided.
“The application site is located approximately 300m to the southwest of the village of Glenbarr. The proposal looks to utilise an existing access onto C20 Barr Glen Road and improvement works will be undertaken to modify the junction.
“Among the proposed parking bays in the proposal, eight would be designated as permanent parking bays, which would be surfaced in porous pavers infilled with loose stone together; and eight be designated as overspill parking bays, which would be surfaced in porous pavers and seeded with a low growing flowering lawn mix.”
The report added: “No litter bin is proposed within the proposed car park, as the users are encouraged to bring waste away. Volunteers will conduct litter picking monthly.
“Due to the small scale of the proposed car park, it is deemed that such arrangement is acceptable.”
