A killer who bludgeoned a sleeping man to death in a Glasgow flat is facing life behind bars.
Ryan Richardson’s lifeless body was found days after the attack within his flat in Shettleston after family members became worried when he hadn’t been in touch.
Prosecutors say Anthony Allan attacked the 28-year-old with a baseball bat or similar weapon.
Jurors heard that after the death was reported in the media, Allan told a man: “I did it.”
The 25-year-old now faces a life sentence after being convicted of murder at the High Court in Glasgow.
The victim suffered “extensive” fractures to his skull and bleeding to the brain in the attack that took place at some point between March 3 and March 15 last year.
A large number of Ryan’s family and friends cheered when the guilty verdict was read out.
The group then loudly applauded jurors before leaving the courtroom.
Mr Richardson was found after police forced their way into his flat amid concerns for him.
Medical staff compared his injuries to those suffered by car crash victim or people who have fallen from a height.
Prosecutor Greg Farrell told jurors the Crown relied on a “number of admissions” made by Allan after the murder.
This included Allan stating to one man: “I did it, I did it.”
The killer was described as if “he was on a high” while talking about it.
Lord Matthews adjourned the case for reports until next month as the judge told jurors he agreed the trial had been “a deeply unpleasant case”.
