American and other overseas visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy an early morning dram or beer at a famous Irvine sports club after a licensing application was successful.

Irvine Golf Club applied to North Ayrshire Licensing Board for a variation of premises and their case came before the Board meeting on Monday.

Club captain Willie Cameron represented the applicants.

An inspection of the premises was undertaken on March 12. During the visit, there was some signage and documents which required updating.

Advice was given and a follow up notice was given.

The follow up visit then took place on March 20 with no issues identified.

The club made early contact and sought advice early on and have communicated clearly throughout.

Current opening hours within the operating plan are 11am to 1am from Monday to Saturday and then 12.30pm to 1am on Sunday.

Mr Cameron said: “We are looking to open up the bar at 9am and that is primarily to service the membership and visiting parties.

“We do have a lot of visiting parties from North America, Canada, all over Europe and from England. They are coming from a flight or on a bus journey and we are looking to service the bars. Alcohol would be served but primarily it would be coffees and soft drinks at that time in the morning.

“We have a lot of events from March to October. We had the club Championship final and the handicap final where he had 40 or 50 people to watch the golf. It started at 8am, the first round was by at 11am.”

An outdoor drinking area adjacent to the bar was also requested by the club and this was agreed by the Board.
