A party celebrating Scottish actor James McAvoy’s directorial debut had to be moved due to the fire affecting Glasgow Central Station.

The debut screening of California Schemin’, attended by cast and crew, closed the Glasgow Film Festival on Sunday evening.

The gala event, due to be held at the Central Hotel, inside Glasgow Central Station, was moved at the last minute to Berlinkys on Sauchiehall Street after the station and the hotel were closed due to the Union Street blaze.

Around 60 firefighters were called to Union Street at 3.46pm on Sunday after a fire broke out on the ground floor of a commercial building, which has now collapsed.

Glasgow Central Station will remain closed on Monday morning with services suspended.

McAvoy said he is “really proud” of the upcoming biopic movie that marked his directorial debut.

California Schemin’ is based on the true story of Bilibil N’ Brains, a Dundonian rap duo who feigned being American rappers from California in order to secure a record deal – before they were eventually found out to be pretending.

The film stars Samuel Bottomley and Seamus McLean Ross, who will portray rappers Billy Boyd and Gavin Bain respectively.

California Schemin’ will be released in UK and Irish cinemas by Studiocanal on April 10.
