A theft investigation has been launched after a “stranger” was found in a Glasgow primary school building on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to Cardonald Primary School at around 9.45am following the morning bell.
The alarm was raised while pupils and teachers were in class, however, the individual left the building before officers arrived.
Checks of the school’s entrances and exits were carried out. Officers have confirmed they are following a positive line of enquiry.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are following a positive line of enquiry following a report of an attempted theft at a school in Glasgow.
“The incident was reported around 9.45am on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. There is no threat to the wider public.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
Glasgow City Council has confirmed Health and Safety officers will attend the school on Thursday to carry out a “robust risk assessment”.
Council spokeswoman said: “Staff acted swiftly when made aware of a member of the public on school premises and contacted the police who are now investigating.
“All our schools take the safety of their pupils and staff seriously and will be reiterating the stranger danger message to children.
“The school is being visited by council health and safety officials to see if there are any additional mitigations that can be added to the building’s robust risk assessments.”
