An investigation has been launched after a man’s body was found in a burnt out car on a street in Dumfries.

Emergency services were called to the town’s Burntscarth Road at around 8.40am on Thursday, after receiving reports of a car on fire.

The blaze was extinguished, and the body of a 61-year-old was discovered inside.

Officers confirmed the death is being treated as unexplained at this time and enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.40am on Thursday, October 19, police received a report of a car on fire in Burntscarth Road, Dumfries.

“Emergency services attended and a 61-year-old man was found deceased.

“The man’s family has been informed.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
