A 60-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after the incident in Greenock.

An attempted murder probe has been launched after a man was left in a serious condition following an attack in a pub in Greenock.

Emergency services were called to the premises on Cathcart Street at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

A 60-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, for treatment.

Medical staff describe his current condition as serious.

Officers are appealing for anyone with any information into the incident to come forward at this time.

Detective inspector Nicky Beattie said: “The family of the man are being supported by police and being kept up to date with the ongoing investigation. I am appealing to anyone that can help with our investigation to come forward.

“We believe there were a number of people within the premises at the time and I would appeal to anyone who was there on Tuesday night to speak to us if you have not already done so.”

“Those with information can speak to officers by calling 101 and quoting incident number 0962 of September 18. Alternatively, you can make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
