One of Glasgow’s most iconic nightclubs has been put up for sale after more than 30 years.

The Garage, on Sauchiehall Street, has been a popular spot in the city’s nightlife scene since opening in 1994.

The venue has played host to some big names in the music industry, including One Direction and Prince. The latter played a surprise set there in 1995.

The Garage, which also holds extra rooms like G2, and The Attic, collectively host over 250 bands each year and has a capacity for 1,800 visitors each night.

Owner Donald MacLeod, who also owns the Cathouse club in the city, said he was selling to focus on other business interests.

Mr MacLeod said: “It has been an absolute privilege and honour to own and operate such a well-loved venue, whose history, energy, location and reputation has placed it on the world’s stage.

“As I start to focus on developing other areas of my media, promotion and leisure portfolios, this feels like the right time to pass the baton to a new owner, who along with our fantastic management team and staff, will help build on this incredible legacy.”

Estate agents CDLH, announcing the sale, said strong interest in the site was expected from a range of buyers.
