Hunt to fill 'life-changing' job for teacher on Scottish island

North Ayrshire Council has posted the advertisement for the role at Arran High School.

An island’s only secondary school is searching for an English teacher to fill what has been described as a “life-changing” job.

North Ayrshire Council has posted the advertisement for the role at Arran High School.

The school has a roll of around 250 pupils with about 50 teachers.

Established in 1946, before it was built pupils from Arran would need to travel to and board at a school on the Isle of Bute.

The role pays £37,896 – £47,565 per year and is due to be filled for the start of the new term in August.

James McEnaney, an author who is due to leave teaching this summer, said working at the school was his “first and best” job.

“Arran is a wonderful place and the school is incredible,” he wrote in a tweet.

“If you’re an English teacher, consider having your life changed.”
