A woman has been left “distraught” after being approached by two women who attacked her and stole her mobile phone and a sum of cash in South Lanarkshire.

Officers have launched a hunt after the assault and robbery in the Hill Street area of Hamilton on Tuesday evening.

The 47-year-old woman was said to have been approached by two women who threatened her.

The pair took off with several personal items from the victim, including her phone and a three-figure sum of cash.

Officers said that the woman was not “badly” injured in the incident and did not require medical treatment but has been left “distraught”.

Police described both the women as wearing dark clothes and spoke with local accents.

The force are urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward.

Detective constable Ross Kirkland said: “Fortunately the woman was not badly injured and did not require medical treatment but she has been left distraught and very upset by what has happened.

“I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time and might have seen what happened to get in touch, particularly if you have dash-cam that could assist our enquiries.

“In addition, if you live in the area please check and if you have private CCTV-footage that could help then please make contact.

“Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0412 of Wednesday, February 8, 2024, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
