A hunt for three suspects has been launched after a man and woman were seriously assaulted while waiting for a taxi in East Kilbride.
The attack occurred in the town centre on Saturday around 2.30am when the man, aged 28 and woman, aged 30, were waiting in the taxi rank queue on Cornwall Street.
They became involved in an altercation with two women in the queue and, as a result, with the female victim falling to the ground.
The two women then walked off to a nearby parked car where a man known to them was waiting in a silver/grey Chevrolet Aveo.
When the group were followed by the couple another altercation took place and the man in the car exited his vehicle armed with a weapon and seriously assaulted the 28-year-old man.
He and the two women then left in the car.
The injured couple were taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride where they were treated and have since been discharged.
The first suspect is described as male, white, in his 30s, of slim build, wearing a dark coloured top, work or combat style trousers that had orange flashes at the side.
The two female suspects are described as white. One is described as in her early 20s, with long blond hair, wearing a white skirt and an orange top the other is described as of a slim build, wearing a white top and black trousers.
Detective Constable Ross Kirkland said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the taxi rank or car park at the time and saw the incidents take place.
