Hunt for rapist David McCue on run for six weeks after sex attacks in Glasgow Police Scotland

Police have warned the public “not to approach” a rapist who has been reported missing after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman and young girl.

David McCue was convicted in absence at the High Court in Glasgow of sexual offences on March 17.

The charges included repeated attacks on a woman in Glasgow’s Townhead and Barlanark, including while she was asleep, and of sexually assaulting a girl spanning eight years between 2010 and 2018.

McCue, of Glasgow’s Springboig, had initially been in the dock on March 10, but disappeared as the trial entered its latter stages.

He was not present when jurors returned guilty verdicts to four charges on Tuesday, March 14. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

The 41-year-old failed to appear for sentencing on March 31 and police are continuing efforts to trace him.

He is known to frequent the Eastend of Glasgow and is described as white European, 5ft 10 inches in height, with short brown hair.

Officers have urged the public not to approach McCue and contact the police with any information they may have.

Detective sergeant Michelle Rodger of the Public Protection Unit said: “I would urge this man to hand himself into police or anyone who has information relating to his whereabouts to make contact with the police.

“Members of the public are urged not to approach but can contact Police Scotland via the 101 non-emergency telephone number or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Last month, Paul Kearney KC told the High Court in Glasgow that MCue was “still at large”.

“Various addresses have been checked and excluded. Entry has been forced at two addresses without success,” he said.
