A woman walking her dogs in Irvine spotted the man carrying out an indecent act on himself in the South Beach area.

Police are on the hunt for a masked man who performed a solo sex act on a North Ayrshire beach.

The incident happened in Irvine at around 8.50pm on Wednesday.

Police said a woman was walking with her dogs along a footpath in the South Beach area next to the golf course when she spotted a man standing in the sand dunes carrying out an indecent act on himself.

The woman then returned to her car and contacted the police.

The suspect was described as around 5ft 6in, of average build, and had dark, neck-length hair.

He was wearing a black hat, a black face mask, a black hoodie and dark jeans.

Sergeant Gordon Young said: “This was a very distressing incident for the woman and it is vital that we trace the person responsible.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area of South Beach on Thursday evening, and noticed the man described or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.”
