An arrest warrant has been issued for former St Mirren and Motherwell footballer Kevin Van Veen after he failed to appear in court for sentencing.

The Dutch national pled guilty to a campaign of abuse against his ex-girlfriend and was due at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday.

But van Veen did not attend.

The former Premiership player was arrested in August 2024 at Glasgow Airport and first appeared in court in October last year.

The 34-year-old was accused of abusing his partner over a number of years.

The abuse is said to have taken place at properties in Uddingston, Inverclyde, and Bridge of Weir as well as on a trip to Cancun, Mexico.

Van Veen later pled guilty to a charge of engaging in a course of abusive behaviour towards her between September 2021 and December 2023.

At the time of his initial arrest, van Veen was on loan at St Mirren from Dutch side Groningen; however, this deal was terminated following the accusations.
